Dish installation and Dual view

Home | Dish installation and Dual view | Contact Us

Before buying a dish the client must be aware of the different dishes available, their characteristics, reception ability and how this will affect your viewing pleasure. If you decide on the cheapest installation you can expect a LNB (Electronic unit in front of dish) that is not water-resistant and will have to be replaced within 18 months, as well as a picture that breaks up especially in bad weather. Cheaper versions tend to move around in the wind and are wobbly.

The way a dish retrieves signals is a Science, governed by the laws of Physics. Disobeying these laws by using cheaper replicas can lead to a lot of frustration. The way a dish is shaped is very important for precise reflection of waves onto the LNB. We say that the signal to noise ratio or bit error rate is good Readings done on various dishes have shown that the Visiosat (from Europe) and Prodlin dishes has very stable reflection chareteristics and produces excellent signal quality.

The 80cm fiberglass RTM dishes would be the next most effective. A well designed dish with precise installation is essential for a stable signal in bad weather. There are a few "clever guys" that say the dish receives a digital signal and feel that precision alignment is not necessary. This is a half truth used to justify speedy work. We do many re-installations and solve a lot of problems by installing quality equipment or / and through precision alignment.

DSTV installations
Before purchasing a DSTV decoder, customers must be aware of different decoders, their functions and the client’s need.

DSD990 decoder is for entry level installations.
Dual View decoder is for more than one viewer at a time with an additional R50+ Subscription fee /m.
Dual View PVR decoder is the same as the Dual View and has a hard drive for recording purposes.
The PVR also have an extra modulator and saves the client the cost of an external modulator.

Location
The head end of an installation is where all the wires decoders, video machine and DVD come together.
It is normally located in the Home Theatre room. Try to locate the best area for the head end. Moving a head end at a later stage is costly and time consuming .

Head end can look like this:

Dual View + DVD + Home Theatre (Wires = 2 x Dish, Antenna, Distributing, 5 x Speakers)

Power Chords are laid 200mm away from RF cable to avoid magnetic induction
Magnetic fields can causes interference on TV picture
The Box method in 2nd and 3rd picture is time consuming and costs R300 excl. extra.

People sometimes ask, what is the difference between a Mr. E Trading installation and the guy next door.
  1. Our installations are technically correct and obey the laws of physics and science.
  2. We spend a lot of time laying our wires away from power cords.
  3. Our cables are laid in the roof in such a way that no one can stand on it, preventing it from getting kinks that causes reflection signal in the cable which lead to poor reception over a period of time.
  4. We use genuine copper cable and not copper clan which disintegrate with DC over a period of time (+ - 14 months)
  5. We refuse to install parts that have caused us trouble in the past. We give a 1 year guarantee on installation and cant afford comebacks due to sub-standard parts

Dual-view decoder installation

The dual view decoder installation is quite a complicated installation, mainly because the client is unaware of the underlying costs of such an installation. Therefore we have decided to give a few quotations with an explanation to provide the client with the opportunity to decide which installation will best suit their needs. After the client has established their needs, we as installers must have a look at the clients other implements (e.g. Video machine) and see if it is compatible with the dual view decoder (eg. Stereo inputs) and only once all this has been determined can we go forth and build a quotation.

We will start with a brief explanation of the most common\general installation, as advertised by most companies. Dual view decoders have two outputs: 1) the RF output where the signal is sent via the normal co-axil cable and 2) the RCA output. The RF output conveys the power supply for the link or the remote extender that enables you to change channels from the far TV. If the link is not placed in its proper position and the power supply runs through the co-axil cable it can cause damage to your TV.

This will also mean that the signal from the video machine and/or can not be sent to the far TV. The part of the decoder that operates the far TV only works via RCA outputs. This means that the near TV or video must have a RCA input facility. The video signal works via RF outputs, thus the video is not available at the far TV. Many clients are not satisfied by these limitations, thus it can be rectified with more advanced and costly installations. Some of these limitations has been sorted out in the latest PVR decoder and we strongly recoment it.

CASE 1

Client has:
2 televisions
TV or video machine at the main point MUST have RCA inputs.

Disadvantages:
There is only one distribution point available. Because of power running through cable to support the TV link remote extender, the signal cant be split to other rooms
The video is not available at the far TV.

CASE 2
Client has:
2 televisions
The TV or video machine at the main point does not have RCA inputs.
This requires that the client installs a modulator to change RCA signal coming from the RCA output to a RF signal. We strongly recommend the Alcad modulator because of its perfect picture as well as its ability to maintain a clean SABC signal. The cheaper modulators often cause disturbances in the system.
Disadvantages:
There is only one available distributing point.
The video is not available at the far TV.

CASE 3

Client has:
2 TV’s and a video machine with RCA inputs and outputs
Client wants both the DSTV signals and the video signal at the near and the far TV.
This is accomplished by installing a dual view coupler to separate the power supply from the RF signal, sending it through the video machine and combining it with the power supply as the signal re-enters the dual view coupler.

Disadvantages:
NONE
This type of installation is more acceptable for clients. This format also allows DVD signals to be sent to the far TV via the video machine.

CASE 4

Client has:
5 TV’s and a stereo video machine with RCA inputs and outputs.

Client wants DSTV signals, M-Net, SABC channels, video and DVD signals to be available on every TV.

To accomplish this we can install a dual view coupler, a power pass setback amp and a one leg power pass 4-way splitter, but we recoment the mote expensive route of remote extenders to bypass this problem

We have experienced that the Dual View eye link does not work effectively in above application and therefore recommend the remote extender at each point.
We therefore like to install this installation without the coupler and with the remote extender.
